My ACCESS Journey: Week 6

We were given some time to discuss preparations for the Gala Fundraiser, which we had this past weekend, thanks to all the hard work from the ACCESS group, it ended up being a blast and we raised a lot of money for AIM to Empower (the total raised is still being counted, because donations are still rolling in)!

For ACCESS Session 6, we had our midterm! I was so nervous in anticipation of the test, but realized quickly there was no room for nerves since I was studied and prepared – and guess what, I passed! Actually, everyone in our group passed! We were all super happy and proud of that.

We had our teaching practicum on the Sunday of this session. This involved us putting into play everything we’ve learned and practiced. We all had to teach 10 minutes of the Journey Into Power sequence to our team and some EPY teachers that joined us for the practicum.

I was so anxious, but I did the thing and ended up throwing up my hand to be the first to teach! Longest 10 minutes of my life, but after I got good feedback from my team, they told me what worked and what didn’t, then we went on from there. Everyone did so great, there were a couple of very inspiring moments from Lisa Taylor,  she had a lot of great things to say, her insight helped a couple of people with the fear they were going through while teaching. By the end, I could have gone again and again.

I’m super excited about this next ACCESS session because we are going on a special field trip to a Baptiste Teacher Course in Philadelphia in Philly! I’m excited to see what I will gain from this program, stay tuned for my blog about that!
