Jackie Dahlheimer

Birthday: January 18
Zodiac: Capricorn
Favorite Asana: Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel)

The first time Jackie tried yoga in 2006, she had a lot to overcome. “I needed a way to get in shape after my son was born,” she explains, “and I was fighting a depression at the time.” Luckily, Jackie found that her practice helped her reconnect with her inner strengths, and before long, yoga helped her move into a more positive way of being.

“You know that feeling you have after riding a roller coaster?” Jackie asks. “Well, that’s what yoga is for me—I really love it that much.” By the second year of her practice, she was assisting classes and thinking more seriously about the role of yoga in her life. “Then Lisa Taylor talked me into going to a [Baptiste Level I] Bootcamp,” she remembers. “I came home a very different person, and for the first time in my life, I found that I had a purpose: I wanted to be a yoga teacher!”

Since the Spring of 2007, Jackie has been doing just that. She has realized that she can learn just as much as the instructor in the front of the room as a practitioner on the mat. “I am always changing, growing, evolving,” she explains. “It’s a never-ending, beautiful process. Teaching has taught me to be kinder to myself and to bring my patience as a loving mother to myself and my students. I know that I can’t stand for another human if I can’t face myself first.”

Most of all, Jackie enjoys the experience of truly connecting with her students. “We sometimes laugh as we do our practice; sometimes we cry,” she says. “But I get to see people as they really are—no masks. I get to have conversations with a person’s Highest Self. How lucky am I?!”

A Note From Jackie Dahlheimer

“To brand new students: you should know that you belong here—this practice is for everyone. The beginner’s path is wonderful and exciting. Come to your practice with a sense of playfulness. And to the not-so-beginner student: come as if you are a beginner, with no expectations.”
