Roberta Strickler
Birthday: April 25
Zodiac: Taurus
Favorite Asana: Arda Chandrasana (Half-Moon)
Since 1990, Roberta has been an active yoga practitioner. On a whim, she decided to take a teacher training program at Kripalu in 1995, but it wasn’t long before the universe opened up its doors to her. “Within a week, someone invited me to create a class,” she says. “I did it; I loved it; and I have been teaching ever since.”
Her first years were very busy, giving her plenty of opportunities to try out new sequences, styles, and ideas. “In 1995, there were so few certified teachers that I soon was teaching six days a week, often three classes a day. It was definitely an immersion!”
Through the years, Roberta has learned to appreciate each student’s journey as something unique and personal to them. “As I am fond of saying, No Two Bodies are Alike,” she explains, “and no two people approach yoga with the same perspective and the same needs. I love doing yoga therapy now that I am a little older and have 15 years of experience watching all those different sizes and body types.”
Beyond her knowledge of how yoga can impact different individuals, Roberta strongly believes in yoga’s ability to help people let go of the need to control and allow life to guide them. “The universe rights itself and takes care of us,” she says. “We don’t need to manage every aspect of every minute of our lives. Wait, and it will happen the way it is intended to be. The whole thing is truly about quieting the mind.”

A Note From Roberta Strickler
“I love yoga because it never gets old. Just when I think I have reached a pinnacle, a plateau, or an impasse, something wholly unexpected opens up. Yoga is just as challenging to the intellect as it is to the body. As we age and realize that we are not going to be mastering high-performance asanas, we can find so much inspiration in yoga philosophy and meditation practices. It is an ongoing journey for the soul.”
