Despite some knee injuries, Kate spent most of her life enjoying long-distance running. Eventually, the constant strain and impact on her joints led to several surgeries to deal with her old injuries. By 2001, Kate knew she needed a new way to keep herself fit, so she decided to give yoga a shot.
“After living with my knee problems for 20 years, I was looking for something new,” Kate says. “For me, yoga started as a physical practice where I could get a workout without running, but it has grown to include a spiritual and lifestyle practice.”
Kate stuck with her practice and ultimately decided to learn more about becoming an instructor. “My yoga practice had strengthened me in so many ways that I wanted to share it,” she explains. She enrolled in a Baptiste Level I Bootcamp and came back eager to begin teaching.
Through instructing and practice, Kate has learned that the mind-body connection she experiences through yoga will lead her in the right direction every time. “Yoga has taught me to pay attention to my body and to my life,” she says. “It amazes me how basic actions like breathing, correct alignment, grounding, staying present, and lightness of being can serve a person well both on and off the mat.”
