Julie Kathleen Mathers
Birthday: September 17
Zodiac: Virgo
Favorite Asana: Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel)
Julie began taking yoga at a Bikram studio in the Fall of 2002. When she decided to try Vinyasa five years later, she was hooked instantly. “For me, it is like taking a shower or brushing my teeth—something I just need to do everyday to feel good!” she says.
Once she found her passion for Vinyasa, Julie was inspired to combine two of things she loves the most: “I started teaching because it was the perfect marriage of teaching and yoga—two things I love to do,” she explains. “I have a masters in early childhood education and a passion for yoga, so teaching kids to do yoga is an exact match!”
After teaching children for a year, the 200-Hour Teacher Training program was introduced at EPY, and Julie knew it was the next step for her. She enrolled in the training only to discover an even greater connection to what she found in her practice. “I knew yoga was the best thing for me, but it wasn’t until teacher training that I realized how much I needed yoga and the mat to keep me grounded, still, and connected to me,” she says. “My yoga practice has been the path for my personal journey to becoming healthy, feeling self-worth, and being still enough to listen to what my body is telling me.”
Once her training was complete, Julie began teaching to all levels and ages, and enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for yoga with her students. “I strive to share with my students my personal journey to finding self-worth and how yoga has helped me to reach my health and emotional goals.”

A Note From Julie Kathleen Mathers
“I love yoga because it keeps me grounded and still. I see yoga and my yoga practice as something I need to do everyday to feel refreshed, like a shower or brushing my teeth. It is practice for life and a chance to start over each and every time!”
