Jonina Turzi
Birthday: April 13
Zodiac: Aries
Favorite Asana: Adha Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog)
Jonina has been focused on helping others through physical movement and alignment since college, where she earned a B.S. in Human Movement, and has been enjoying her career as a physical therapist for several years. For her, teaching yoga was a quick and natural transition that has allowed her to become a positive influence in the lives of many students and patients.
She first took a yoga class during her senior year of college to become more focused and move towards greater mental clarity. She loved the experience of coming into presence so much that she was teaching yoga within a year. “As I became aware of my breath in the poses, mindful of my reactions, and aware of my intentions, my life changed in so many ways both on and off the mat,” she says.
Jonina’s training in physical therapy allowed her to move seamlessly into the role of yoga instructor. “I love the integration of my anatomy and physiology studies with the practice and instruction of the asanas. Sometimes this helps people into a pose they thought they could not do, or overcome a painful experience by making their body feel safe and strong.”
During the last several years, Jonina has enjoyed the impact of sharing her love of yoga with so many students. “I love that yoga is inherently optimistic,” she says. “Yogis believe that at our most basic level, we all share the same undeniable goodness, and if we can remember ourselves, we will act, speak, and live with love and compassion for one another.”

A Note From Jonina Turzi
“You probably already know how much a yoga practice can help you physically—it makes you strong, flexible, graceful—but you might not also realize that yoga can touch even deeper aspects of your life and existence. Conscious practice can help you find peace, generosity, compassion, and joy. It continues to be the most extraordinary, challenging, and profound experience of my lifetime; the most rewarding for sure.”
