Jackie Mori
Birthday: March 12
Zodiac: Pisces
Favorite Asana: Arda Chandrasana (Half-Moon)
Jackie first tried yoga in high school, but as an athlete from a young age, she usually relied on team sports and running to stay in shape. She practiced yoga on and off for many years, and in the Spring of 2009, she finally decided to get more serious about her practice. “I was looking for a way to stay in shape and to live a healthier lifestyle,” she remembers.
She began taking classes at EPY and soon joined the 40 Days to a Personal Revolution program. The healthy living and daily yoga practice made a big impact on Jackie, teaching her how to take personal responsibility for her lifestyle choices and responses to the world around her.
“Changing the way I treat myself really affects the way I see the world,” she says. “I’m only as good as my practice is. That doesn’t mean I have to do the best Warrior III or hold a headstand the longest—it means that when I dedicate the time to myself to stay connected, grounded, and healthy, that I’m the best person I can be.”
Jackie enjoys teaching to all kinds of students, but feels especially connected to those who have the most to gain from the practice. “That’s what’s so great about yoga,” she says. “Regardless of your starting point, you belong here. It doesn’t matter what your poses look like now or five years from now; it only matters how they feel to you. Not only will you see the benefits of yoga in your own life, but you’ll better our community at the same time.”

A Note From Jackie Mori
“I love that yoga is accessible to anyone, regardless of physical ability, age, or fitness experience. One of the most interesting things I hear people say is, ‘I’m not flexible enough for yoga.’ That’s like saying, ‘I’m too thirsty to drink.’ Why would you avoid something that can help you? I’m inspired by the notion that each of us already possesses everything we need to overcome obstacles and be happy. We already have our own answers; yoga just helps us find them.”
